Sara-Patricia Wasson

About
Sara Wasson specialises in critical medical and environmental humanities, and intersections of speculative fiction and science. She has
published widely on chronic pain and transplantation studies, and led the UKRI AHRC-funded research network Translating Chronic Pain. She is
interested in the ways that pain and illness can be imagined and written, and how short-form writing can counter the invisibility of chronic illnesses. Sara is also fascinated by the ways speculative fiction can help to interrogate the present as well as imagine alternative – perhaps more equitable – futures.

Sara’s work bridges the interpretive and data-driven sciences, with particular interest in environmental data publics and creativity. She is especially interested in collaborative approaches that integrate technical modelling with social and ethical insight. Her latest project is connects biodiversity databases, data visualisation, and creative short-form work, as a form of public outreach.

Sara also specialises in critical plant studies and ice humanities, with particular specialist in speculative botany, Celtic temperate ancient semi-natural oak woodland, and literature and poetry of the Arctic.
